My name is Merek Poto, it’s nice to meet you! I’m a warm and empathetic therapist who understands that life is full of ups and downs and that sometimes we need a little help navigating. I have vast amounts of experience advocating for transgender individuals and for survivors of sexual assault who are in crisis at the hospital. I identify a non-binary individual who wants to provide therapy for other people who are part of the LGBTQ community. I have spent my time over the years honing my craft to be able to meet my clients where they’re at. I take a very loose, but practical approach to therapy and I believe that honesty is the best policy when working with clients in a kind, therapeutic manner. I understand that therapy is a process and takes time, and I’m here to help guide you through those steps and work alongside you. I engage with various treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing.
Specialties: anxiety, depression, LGBTQ issues, personality disorders, personal growth, confidence, and more!
I see people for individual therapy and work with people who are 18+.
In the past, I have worked with members of the LGBTQ community by:
· Educating high schoolers on the various gender identities, sexes, and sexualities
· Understanding the experiences of LGBTQ members by being in the community himself
· Taking an active role in talking with members of the LGBTQ community
· Helping young people feel more comfortable with themselves
· Spreading awareness and creating allies for the LGBTQ community
I also have experience working with survivors of sexual assault:
· Arriving in hospital settings to support survivors
· Advocating for survivors to ensure their rights are met
· Providing a judgement free, safe space for survivors
What’s most important to know is that you are not alone, and you don’t have to do this alone. Being vulnerable can be hard and scary, and if you feel ready to start your therapeutic journey, I’m here to hear you.
